After 14 years and numerous special editions, the popular GP 4000 has been updated, giving way to the newcomer GP 5000. The GP 4000 S II is recognized by all as the first of its kind, a tire with excellent performance and maximum in reliability. Now, 14 years after the introduction of the first GP 4000, the legendary Continental has been completely overhauled and proven to be better in every respect. In the new 5000, Continental declares 12% less rolling resistance, 20% more puncture protection and 10% less weight, offering a smoother and more comfortable ride. Continental's proprietary Black Chili compound has been updated with a new formula and laser-etched tread to offer better grip when cornering. Continental also claims a more aerodynamic tire surface with minimal turbulence.

Vectran is woven from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and is then processed into a multi-filament yarn. Spider silk, like Vectran material, offers enormous wear resistance and very low weight - exactly the right properties to produce a superior quality Continental bicycle tire with built-in puncture protection. The Vectran Breaker element is lighter and more flexible, in addition to protecting more effectively against cuts than the nylon protections of other comparable covers. Vectran Breaker does not compromise the rolling resistance of the tire.
